Official Report.

I made two Bs and three As. Yeahhhhhh! haha Well I can relax now that I know what I made. I'm working today and tomorrow then I get my Christmas break. It is much needed for sure. Anyone thinking about being in the design business should be advised ahead of time that under pressure is a constant feeling, making deadlines are a must, and multitasking is a form of art. Seriousloy not to scare anyone, but if you can't take the heat and you don't like change you shouldn't try this curriculum. Graphic Design is fun and your co-workers are your family. Expect long hours spent with them in the office and sometimes extra time off for working hard on a project. Clients are necessary for designers to work so remembering that the clients needs and wants are first. They are footing bill so if you make them happy they will trust you to spend their money and they will probably come when they need to have another job completed. Also, marketing yourself, your company, and your ideas are important to know how to do. A designer that knows how to market will more likely get the job than a designer who might wonderful ideas, but doesn't know how to explain them.

HOLIDAYS!

I am so ready for Christmas and New Years. Hopefully on this break I will get some rest. =) Well today is the last day of my internship soo hooray I passed my class with an A. I looked at my GPA this morning and it was a 3.905. I want to graduate with a 4.0, so I need to work harder. Maybe next semester I will make mainly As.

Whew! Yet Another Project and Party at the Same Time

My last projects of the semester were to create a Zales commercial to advertise their website. That was pretty easy and I learned quickly what was important to remember about creating website commercials. On the other hand, making the handmade book was a difficult and stressful process. It took a while and several trips to the store, but I completed that project and I was satisfied with what I had done.
While I have class going on I also was co-chair of the holiday party sponsored by the Student Government Association. It was a challenging job, but I kind of like always having something that I need to accomplish. Juggling school, work, SGA, and home always makes me have to think about my schedule before planning and that is another thing I like about being busy.
I just want to say that I have made so many good friends from being in the SGA and I encourage anyone and everyone to join to, not only help out the community, but also make friends for life and memories you'll never ever forget. Our party last night was a blast. First, we started setting up and the school lost power. This was a little scary, but fun to decorate with just the light of the windows and skylight. Then when the decor was all in place we had to ride to Georgia Pacific and JK Nails to get a present for Kim. We had a fun ride jumping the curb at at school and cracking jokes the whole time. When we got back from our trip the party was getting ready to start and the power was back, thank God for that he was watching out for us. Also, the people were lined up at the door ready to give toys and canned foods. I was so excited at the sight of the people who were ready to give in such a tough economy. The food was great, the music was fun, and the dancing was the best. I love to dance! We did all kinds of stuff and we had a blast!

Overcoming Fears!

A lot of people are afraid to speak in front of an audience or present in front of class. I feel my face start to glow and my ears catch on fire when I have to present. My job as executive director is to keep everything organized and on time as well as being in charge of the production books and the presentation.  Instead of presenting I put myself in charge of  the budget and Gigi and Ryan said they would do the presenting. Thank God for that because I don't think I want to face my fears in front of the news on television. I think I need to work my up to it.

Randolph County Project.

Wow! Being in any art major is stressful work. In graphic design we had to create an entire campaign, proposal, presentation, and creative brief in three weeks. This is difficult, but at least I will know how to deal with difficult situations when I get in a job.. I have to mount the rest of the boards by this afternoon so I can have the presentation stuff ready. Whew! Hopefully God's will is for me to finish with a good outcome.

Graduation!!!!

Wow! I can't believe I made it this far. I am going to graduate in exactly 6 months. I am so excited inside and I just don't know what I'm going to do after this. Making my decision will be hard but I know I will strive to be the best designer I can possibly be.  Maybe I will get a job with a printing company or with a small company. I don't really want to work with a big agency at first, at least not until I get used to the field and how fast the pace is in industry. Maybe I'll go to a four-year school and get a degree in marketing or graphic design? It just depends on whether I get a job or not right out of college. If I decide to attend a four-year school I want to go to Appalachian or UNC- Greensboro.

Extreme Makeover!!!

Extreme Makeover Home Edition is coming to Lexington to do a house for a family in need.  I wanted to volunteer and have the whole group of Student Government Association help out, but we didn't apply in time so they have all the volunteers they needed... Oh well maybe next time =/

This week's been pretty hectic. I have to finish a business proposal for the new company Randolph County Historic Landmark Preservation Commission. This is really important because I am going to be on television possibly while presenting the proposal to the client.

Friday. SGA fun!

I think I am going to officially declare that every Friday is SGA day.  Every Friday for the past month or so, I have had a long list of things to do for the Student Government Association. I have to admit it is extremely fun every time Friday rolls around.  Not only am I helping the Marketing Department and the school out by being a part of this volunteer organization, but I am also enjoying the friendship and sense of achievement I get out of Student Government Association.

Good? Morning

Well this morning was one of those where I just didn't want to get out of bed.  The fall weather is making feel as if I were a 90 year old woman with a sore throat and arthritis.  I think it's the cold weather, but I also think it has something to do with the flu season hitting.  If I didn't have to get a poster done today for the Archdale Center, then I would not be at school today at all.  Well I am going to go work on that, so have a good week everyone and try not to get sick!

SGA Event!

Wow! What can I say, that was an amazing day of fun filled college life... Wednesday the SGA held their fall event, entitled Here Comes Hollywood.  Early morning, until the festival started, we were rushing to setup the Photography bay.  There was a lot of preparation in this party including the limo and radio station 105.7 that was there.  We had fun all day long playing around having time to spend together and work together to pull this event off.  For all of the effort that went into this party, I thank everyone that helped SGA make it happen... The food was delicious and the music was great.  Not to mention Daniel Smith dressed up like Chewbacca being the announcer for all of the upcoming happenings during the event.  The winner of the costume contest was the cosmetology lady dressed as Professor Flitwick.

Sometimes You Have to Take Charge

Last night I went to a concert at my church.  The thing I loved most about being there was gaining the chance to be a part of this world missions program called YWAM, Youth With A Mission.  This organization has a ship thats like a floating hospital.  They take to the little third world countries and help the people that need medical attention.  If I can somehow raise enough money to get to Australia and back I am going to go help these kids that are in need.  I heard several stories in between the songs that Saving Sparrow and Five Star Streets sang last night that made me want to cry because of the way the people have to live in places like Papau, New Guinea.  I hope the bands make the difference while they are in America like they made a difference in me last night.  Thanks ya'll!!

The Words to Truly Live By...

I have a link to 93.1 Wolf Country website on my blog, but I just wanted to say that this morning's Words to Live By were excellent.  This is what the link says:

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet.  He held up a sign which said, “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.  The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth.  I said what you said but in a different way.”

What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.”

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind.  The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.  Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story:  Be thankful for what you have.  Think differently and positively.

Live life with no excuses and love with no regrets.
When life gives you 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile.
Face your past without regret.
Handle your present with confidence.
Prepare for the future without fear.
Keep the faith and drop the fear.

Wow What to Do?

I was thinking about school this morning as I was getting ready and I realized that I only have seven more months and I will be finished with my degree in Advertising and Graphic Design.  I am not sure whether I will have a job straight out of college or not so I wonder what I would do if I can't find a job in this economy.
After much thought, I figured out that if I can't find a job after 3 months then I will just start back at college in the fall.  I would want to get my 4 year degree in something if I am going to spend that amount of time going back to school.  I heard recently that you can get a degree at Salem College or Pffeifer University online.  This might be a good option for me to consider.  I don't I just thought I should get my written down.

Student Newsletter

The hardest thing that I had to learn was to make the customer happy... I wanted to make the headline of the newsletter very creative and about 1/3 of the page... Well Shelley and Lisa wanted me to be more conservative and only use 1/5 of the page. Needless to say the headline is small... I am ok with it but the design elements that I first intended on using are not there anymore... dang it!!
With all of that going on I still think the newsletter will be great for everyone... It is a unique and fresh piece that I can be proud of.  The newsletter is suppose to be coming out in October so... if anyone wants to be a writer for a section or two that would be great. =)

Busy........

I wish it would stop raining and being dreary.  I feel so tired and blah... Well this week has been pretty hectic with all of the different things that I have to juggle... I had to present a commercial to the professor on Tuesday.  Then, on Wednesday I had to finish the Habitat for Humanity holiday card and packaging and the book design that I am working on currently.  The Habitat card is to presented to the officials this Saturday in Seagrove. Wish my team luck!  Also, I had to make sure that the Student Government Association t-shirt design was completed for production. Whew! That is a lot to put on someone's plate, but at the same time I like the busy schedule because I know I will never get bored... EVER haha

Well hopefully all of the jobs I have at work won't be too much on top of that.  Right now I am working on the Student Newsletter design.  This project has me pretty excited actually, because I can be creative in my own way and not how someone else wants me to create a design.

Lots of Stuff to Keep Ya Busy...

Well last night was the World Stage event, and it was awesome! The cultural arts committee did a fantastic job planning this party. There were several different foods I have never tried before. Let me just say hummus is nasty. I think my favorite food was the raspberry cheesecake.
Then, today I helped out with the Write Now! scavenger hunt... $100 worth of stuff in a prize pack is worth asking someone about the Write Now! program. I also attended the Campus Crusaders pizza party. I had a great time singing and being in the fellowship of other Christians today. I plan on going to their meetings from now on; they meet on Monday nights at 8 in the CTC building.

Oh What a Day...

Today I realized exactly how much I hate to spray mount.  Nothing worked for me today... I repeatedly tried to put this four piece poster together and mount it to a foam board... Finally, I got it on the third try... UGHHH!!!

Words To Live By

It is sometimes hard to juggle school, home, and work all at the same time.  I heard on the radio, the other morning, that if you work too long and don't spend time with your family and friends that you could lose them. The moral of the Words to Live By was to balance your life so that you can have all of them and you won't get too caught up in one thing.

Advice About College Life

It's Friday and this week has gone by too fast.  I have learned so much as an intern from how to illustrate to controlling the Randolph Community College brand.  Randolph Community College is the best college to attend.  It isn't a big campus and there are always opportunities to have fun and freedom as a student to make things happen.  the faculty, staff, and students here are always willing to help with new ideas.  For example, one of my friends, Richard Vance, is planning an RCC Idol.  He decided to ask some of the clubs to help him get it organized.
Every morning, when I walk through the halls, I feel like this is my school.  I think it is important to attend a school that makes you feel welcome and important.  Also, it's a good idea to get involved with as many activities as possible.  Student Government Association is a club for everyone.  I am actually going to a meeting of theirs today to talk about the Here Comes Hollywood party.  I'll give you an update when I get out of the meeting.
